Default Online stores for DDR Militaria?

Hello everybody,

I'm interested in collecting East German militaria (particularly Grenztruppen and visor caps).
However, because I live in Hong Kong, far in the East, there are practically no people selling or collecting such objects.

Could anyone suggest some credible online stores to browse? Thank you!

Ebay is always a great source, and the most plentiful.

There are some DDR dedicated websites though, most notably nva-uniformen.de

I've bought from them many times. Very reliable and reasonable cost. However, in recent years their stocks have begun depleting, as is with all such stores as the German government has sold most of their surplus over the decades since the wall came down.

You could also try Germandotmilitaria. They have a fair amount of DDR stuff.

I'd also recommend Germandotmilitaria. The owner is a forum member and he has some pretty interesting and odd ball stuff show up from time to time.

Ebay is where I bought much of what I have and despite dwindling selection, it is still probably the best source for more common items. Mind you, some knowledge of German is becoming increasingly necessary as there is much less stuff for sale on the .com and .co.uk sites then there once was.

Though not my cup of tea, another option is to troll Stasibook er... Facebook I mean. There you will find plenty of NVA and DDR militaria collector and sellers pages. Aside from this forum, Facebook is becoming an increasingly good place to find other collectors who might be willing to part with something they have.

I greatly second this. The .de site has some sellers that ship internationally, and if you know the German terminology you can find some pretty great deals on interesting items.

For instance, typing ''DDR Schirmmütze'' on the ebay.de -site will give you much, much more results than if you were just searching for ''DDR visor caps'' in the .co.uk or .com -sites.

I just visited the German site for Ebay and I found a much larger variety of militaria there. Thank you for your suggestions!

I would recommend Nicos militaria shop here in Berlin.

He's a member here, has an awful lot of stuff DDR and Warsaw Pact related, lots of it not even online, is very helpful and has great knowledge of the subject. His handle here is USCOB and you can find the online shop here:

Nico is a great guy and I would certainly recommend visiting his site. As mentioned below already, another good option is www.GermanDotMilitaria.com where shipping to HK will not be an issue. Cheers, Torsten.

Both Nico and Torsten (www.GermanDotMilitaria.com) are excellent "trusted" sources, and both offer very good prices.
Highly recommended.
