Default Unknown (tool?) box

Dear fellow-forummembers,

I found this box last week here in the Netherlands. It comes from a barn in an area that was fought over in the beginning of 1945. Apart from this box I found a British ration can (dehydrated peas), dated 1944. The box measures 80 x 22 x 26 centimetres and is quite heavy. It can be locked and is painted in a darker grey or green colour, overpainted with a lighter green. On top it is stamped with 'Nr. 757'. I can not find any other stamps because the box is rusty at the places where they should or could be. Does anyone recognize this box?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I searched the internet for hours yesterday, but could not find an exact match. A lot of toolboxes on Sdkfz and tanks look like this one, but none of them match 100% as far as I can see. Could it be a toolbox for, for instance, a Sdkfz 232 like on the image below? Does anyone have a detailed photograph of such a box?

Looks like a German ammunition box to me. On most models of the Sdkfz I believe the toolbox(s) were part of the vehicle. Looks like something 2 soldiers would carry.

Hello TMurray. Thank you for your reply. I'm sure it is no ordinary ammunition box (I've found a lot of German ammunitionboxes here). The construction of this one is way to 'heavy', and the fact that it can be locked and has a lid strap also are indicative of a toolbox or spare-part box of some kind.

By chance I found a similar box on a online auction, so there are more of them.

For sure there should be more...The problem is knowing what they are for

I believe there was a similar one in another thread and conclusion was it was probably for AA installations MGs.

My mistake,

In the following thread you can see the box I meant, which is different from this one.

I recently found the same box as you on a flea market in France, but the colour is yellow. Would be very interested by any answer in this topic...

Hello,

Any markings somewhere on the box ?
Look at bottom left hand side first.
The inside color looks KM or Luftwaffe to me.

The one on the sdkfz looks more like a 2cm rounds wooden ammo box.

Cheers

Sorry for the delay. Here the Pictures of the box I found. Unfortunetely no lisible marking. Colour outside seems original, but I am not sure about the red inside.

Hope somebody could help...

Hello Legrand. Interesting that you found a similar box! That's the fourth I've been able to find, but unfortunately still no ID.

@ Dufleuve: I'll check for markings ASAP, but I did already look for markings when I found the box, and didn't find any (apart from the number).

I have been able to find a marking! It was on the bottom of the left side, in the corner and barely visible. It is the makers mark 'dth' which, according to Deutsche Fertigungskennzeichen bis 1945 stands for 'Vosswerke Sarstedt'.

Dear Dwayneski, very interesting. Unfortunetely I cannot recognize on your picture in what area of the box you found the marking. Could you make a more distant shoot and indicate with an arrow for instance where I have to search...
