April 30, 1943

The British submarine Seraph releases a corpse into the sea off Spain with false papers to deceive the Germans on the invasion of Sicily (Operation Husky).

May 2nd,1943

Imperial Japanese Navy Battleship Hyūga 日向 began its hybrid battleship/carriers conversion at the Sasebo Navy Yard. Conversion ended on Nov 30,1943

North Atlantic German U-Boots made a final major wolf-pack assault on Convoy ONS 5. Sinking 12 ships in exchange for 6 U-Boots.

Known to the German Navy as Black May.

Axis resistance in Tunisia crumbles and wholesale surrenders begin.

Australian Hospital Ship (AHS) Centaur was sunk by IJN submarine I-177, off the coast of Queensland, Australia.

Out of 332 medical personnel and civilian crewmen, 268 were perished.

B-17F Hell's Angels of 358th Bomb Squadron, 303rd Bomber Group was the first USAAF bomber to complete 25 missions.

Due to high losses, Doenitz orders all U-Boats in the north Atlantic to break off operations against the convoys.
