Lukow told him he acquired the tapestry from the RK...that 2 of them were hanging on a wall between a portrait of Von Hindenburg, etc.). The conversation I had with Frank occurred prior to the publication of Johnson's War Booty book.
From Johnson’s book:

"Sergeant Lukow was attached to the Allied Expeditionary Forces under Dwight Eisenhower as a combat photographer.
Excerpts from veteran Lukow’s recollections: When I entered the Chancellery building .........I began snapping pictures from everything."

I assume that a picture he took of a tapestry will appear sooner or later.

Is there somebody who has access to his pictures?

Regards,
Wim.

Hi,

if those tapestries are really from the Chancellery they were most probably not on the walls, but in stock somewhere.
The Chancellery was heavily bombed, and to keep inflamable items was of course forbidden.
Like for the gifts given to Hitler that were stocked in the Berghof and were looted mostly by the French 2e DB, the Chancellery tapestries probably found in a stock somewhere in the Chancellery or elsewhere in Berlin.

See You

Vince

Hi,

From Johnson’s book: "However when I entered one of the rooms, there were two large swastika/gold oak leaf tapestries still hanging on one wall ............... I proceeded to pull down the two identical tapestries, roll them up, and walk out of the Chancellery."

I assume Lukow took pictures before he pulled them down.

Regards,
Wim.

There is a video, with the Russians walking through the Chancelery, as they were walking through the building. One of these was caught on video as they were walking over it. It's the only footage know as of today tying it to the Chancelery.

here's a tapestry in my collection.

I posted it on the forum 8 or 9 years ago? scary how time flies.

I still have it somewhere... packed away in a box and haven't seen it in years.

I placed an HJ armband on it for a size comparison at the time. Robert
