Default Gasplane 1939 - 1944

Friends,

I have not contributed to the forum for a while so I thought I would change that by starting a thread on the gas capes that I have in my collection.

The capes span the war years and as with most things related to this fantastic hobby there are many different variants\colours etc.

Comments, corrections and further information on any of them are most welcome.

Regards

Ian

Always good to start with some controversy and this is my entry for 1939. This cape was discussed here:
http://www.wehrmachtawards.com/forum...d.php?t=369043

I appreciate that the 39 shown on the label may have nothing to do with the year of production so I am on the lookout for an unquestionable 1939 dated one.

The bag has the same wear as the cape so I believe that they have been together for a long time.

Both cape and bag are dated 1940 but unfortunately this set was put together by me.

Unlike the other capes I own, this one is not in good condition but I bought it because of the detail of the label.

The cape originally came with this bag.

The classic early war set. The Gasplane Label appears relatively simple for an early war model.

Just making it into 1942 is this huge beast. Not seen many like it. It is made of a different material, weighs a lot more and I certainly would not like to carry it accross my chest for long periods of time.

It is shown here with the 1943 dated bag it came with.

For the pivotal year of 1943, a relatively common set. Both bag and cape are dated the same.

A couple of notable features about this set is that the smell of "fish" is exceptionally strong! The other is that although the pictures don't show it the cape and bag are vaulted to the shape of a gas mask can.

Another common maker of gas capes, AGD, is my entry for 1944.

It is shown here with the early war bag it came with. Unfortunately the bag markings have smudged making them impossible to decipher.

Thanks for the compliment mate.

Unfortunately I don't yet own a 45 dated example (yet!) A nice example has been shown by another member in the 1945 thread. Here is a link:
