Thanks for the contributions ZAM, some very interesting examples, especially the very early cloth pouch.

Do you know what the "Raten" means? I see it appear on pouches such as this one and they appear to have different number?

Translation of the german word Rate in dutch means "aflevering" which means as much as episode.....
So as far as I understand it is another word for a batch number.....

But that is an assumption... I can't back this up, but it does sound logical..... Doesn't it ?

My understanding is that "Raten" means
that a big contract that a company received
has been split into smaller part deliverings...

So let's say that company xy was awarded a contract over
10.000 bags , the contract called for deliverance in ten "Raten"
at 1.000 each within an established timeframe.

Regards

Bernhard

Thanks Tom and Bernhard, that does make sense.

For me it gives some accountability, If there are problems or faults, you can see if the problem was specific to a particular Raten or affected the entire run.

Excellent work guys.

A Tropical update for this thread....

Here are photo's of a couple Gasplane sets I have picked up recently featuring early and later war Tropical Gasplanes.

The set on the left is the commonly found 44 dated example that came in a nice early, 1940 dated Gasplanentasche.

The set on the right shows an early war Tropical Gasplane. Although bought together you can clearly see that the Gasplane does not fit the Gasplanentasche that it came with. I wonder if I have a more suitable Gasplanentasche for it?

Fortunately I do.

Coincidentally this makes the first matching set I have owned.
