yes postwar canteen have a greenish khaki color, however you do not have to confuse it with the tropical WWII canteen. Here the color is a chocolate khaki.

Two of my WWII tropical canteen. A version with a buckle strap and one without it.

Great Marco! Thanks. Nice stuff!!

I know for sure that a lot of canteens with brown/reddish covers were issued
for the Ethiopian war (together with those with grey green covers): It is also
true that a lot of batches of M.33 canteens with brown/reddish covers came out
in the '70s in several depots of the italian Red Cross (more than 10.000 specimen)and no doubt that those with the khaki covers were all of post WW2 period
(become obsolete for the Italian Army approx on the 80's).PaoloM

Were M33 canteens still being used post 1940?

Yes of course!
Most of the canteens with no covers or put for sale as "tropical"with Khaki covers are in fact postwar!

Yes 100% agree.....till i noticed the fittings when i picked it up looking at it & could see it had pre war M33 strap fittings not the later wartime arrangement !..the post war type are as you said oftern passed off as Wartime by removal of the karki cover that gives it away as such !...Semovente
