Default 1944 airborne beret

What’s everyone else’s thoughts on this beret? Original or fake?

If original, how much is it worth roughly?

Thanks in advance👍🏼

It is not an original 1944 beret. I would be more inclined to say that it is more of a reproduction rather than a fake. Probably only a few years old.

He said that he got it from a veteran who only wore it 4 times.

But never know

It's the third one I see with these maker stamps since 2012 - if my memory serves me well.

Stamps aside, the leatherette headband, the weaving of the lining and the slider pocket give it away.

Giorgos

DEfinitely not a wartime beret. Most likely a reproduction.

Cheers

As a whole it is most obviously wrong. Biggest give away would be that Compton Sons&Webb did not make maroon berets in 1944.

I suspect that there are three different berets in the original post.
Photos 1 and 3,
Photo 2
and the rest of the photos that show the reproduction/faked beret.

If I compare the photos than photo 2 and 3 are defintely the same beret. Comparing the tiny details of cracks and bends and lines in the leather and tiny spots on the leather or the moth bites on the fabric. These are all consistent. Picture 1 is a different cap indeed.

That said, whether original or not I don't know. I prefer to leave that to the more experienced guys but myself I would pass. My gutfeeling tells me this is a recent made item.
