Default Bulgarian Armoured Brigade officer tunic

recent find and a rare uniform to see, only know a couple other examples and one is now in a museum. Bulgarian M43 officers tunic for Armoured Brigade with rank kapitan (captain). This is the better model for service and special occasions. Armoured Brigade was considered "elite" unit with new equipment priorities and experimented with a more "modern" look than rest of army, so these open collar tunics were unique for them. Lion buttons indicate mot. infantry or support units - mot. artillery would have crossed cannons.

Tailormade, so no stamps or other markings. Snaps on the sides of the pocket flaps, but this is also described for all ranks in the 1943 Armoured Brigade regulations. Loop for 1 medal, probably Order of Bravery, so that is next search!

A very nice tunic, Klaus! And very hard to find. I have the same, fortunately know the officer's story, he was in the anti-armor part of the Armored brigade /antitank artillery unit inside the Brigade, as far as I know/.

Hello Klaus, congrats on a very rare find!
If he was a part of an antitank/anti-armor unit, here is what one of his awards could have/would have looked like!

there are no signs of any other awards or badges beside the single medal loop, so that is only award, that i restore. A portrait of an Armoured Brigade kapitan in same uniform on p. 219 in Vachkov book show only an Order of Bravery and no other awards also.

Sadly i have no history of original wearer. But this uniform has definitely a strange history after the war - seller said he found it during renovation work in a garbage sack in old house he bought (strangely he is in USA and not Bulgaria)! Maybe it belonged once to collector or family (left Bulgaria after war?), but no one must have cared about it later and so left it behind. It was covered with dust, when it arrived, so clearly not handled for long time.
