There is no question that it has been taken completely apart and had one or both springs replaced. It was not a great job in replacing the spring or cleanly putting the knife back to together either. I lot of grinding and not so great pin peening and poor fitting. The lever also looks like a replacement (not period example) as well. The blade I'm not 100% sure of, etching looks thick and maybe off but honestly I did not do a careful comparison of that.


Obviously it has been coated with some kind of varnish or more likely Tru-Oil, but that is the least of the issues here.


All that said, I think it is period knife with the exceptions mentioned above and if the price was very right it would be a filler for someone.

i agree with Phild, except that I don't think it would make a decent 'filler' in a collection. Too hard to get rid of later due to all the issues.
