NPEA Leader Dagger for Review and Authentication
Hello,
I would appreciate any and all opinions on this Karl Burgsmuller NPEA Leader Dagger. I do not own an example and to be quite truthful I've only handled one. Comparing to originals though that have sold or are for sale there are several things that I'm uncomfortable with. The blade appears to be heavily cleaned. In addition, the lettering in the maker's logo doesn't appear correct. One of the umlaute is missing in Burgsmuller and the second L in the name also looks off. Could this be due to the cleaning? I think the chain and clip are ok but appear again to show heavy age. Well just a few things. I look forward to knowledge on this piece.
Regards,
Tim

Definitely like to see what, if any, the tang marks are. There are some things here I like
about it.

Hello,
Thank you for the responses so far. I asked and the owner won't disassemble the dagger handle. So I guess at this point, I'm just looking for a or a . Thanks for the help.
Regards,
Tim

Hello,
Thank you for the comments on the dagger. Unfortunately, the seller won't disassemble the dagger. He feels that the dagger has never been apart. I guess I can't do much more than pass on the dagger. You know when you open a thread and see comments like "one look original" or you truly have something. We just don't have that here.
Regards,
Tim

Tim,
IMO you would do well passing on this one, as you got a good hint from Ron that it's not a textbook example.
If your looking for a NPEA dagger, Ron's book is a must on this difficult to acquire model.

Thanks Serge and I agree. I'm curious just so I learn is it most likely that the blade was simply replaced with a later period blade (maybe original was damaged/heavy wear) or is this blade just bad all together or without tang pictures it is too hard to tell.
Thanks again,
Tim
