What's the story on these? Originality? What is the difference of each one? These are not mine. They are a relatives and he wants to know more about them.

Hello Doggert Dog,

Very nice Prussian Officer Helmets. Thanks for posting excellent photos of them.

Both are Original Helmets.

The difference is that they were worn by different branches of the Imperial German Army

1st Helmet is a Prussian Reservist Guard Regiment Officer Helmet. The only thing that throws me off is that the chinscales should be flat shaped like on the other helmet, and they should be brass/gold color and not silver color. Not sure why this helmet has silver rounded chinscales on it, as they look like they've been on the helmet forever.

I have the double of this helmet, with my example having the proper flat brass or gold color chinscales.

If this helmet had flat shaped, brass/gold color chinscales instead of the silver color rounded ones, it would have been worn by a Reserve Officer in one of the following units:

- 5.Garde-Regt. zu Fuß Garde-Korps (Spandau)
- Garde-Füsilier-Regt. (Berlin) Garde-Korps
- Garde-Pionier-Bataillon (Berlin) Garde-Korps
- Eisenbahn-Regt. Nr. 1-4

2nd Helmet is a Prussian Line Infantry Officer Helmet. It is simply missing the silk portion of the liner, and one of the officer star shaped retainers for the spike base.

Both are very desirable helmets that any collector of Imperial German Headgear would be proud to have in their collection.

If you'd like to send me a private message or an email, I can tell you what they're valued at.

Best Regards,

Alan
