Default A.S in a triangle S-boat Badge

Hi guys,

I bought this S-boat Badge over the weekend at the OVMS Show. It has the semi-scooped reverse but no dark finish to the water or reverse. Looks pretty nice though.

Best regards,
Tom

Hi Tom,
Great catch Is it a copper underlayer what we see on the reverse and obverse?
Cheers,
Hubert

Interesting. I've never seen one so devoid of the black finish before. Makes you wonder whether it was cleaned or never applied in the first place? Can you tell up close Tom?

Also, like Chay's badge, it's another uncommon example with the round-wire catch. This type is also discussed here:

Tom, when you get a chance, could you please provide a closeup shot of the catch attachment?

Best regards,
---Norm

BTW, these round-wire catches so far have only been seen on the scoop-back variant, never the flat-back variant.

Tom, when you get a chance, could you please provide a closeup shot of the catch attachment?

Best regards,

Hi Norm,

I went and took some pictures of the catch. I'm pretty certain it is not any kind of repair or replacement. I wonder how readily that black finish can be removed? I see no trace of it anywhere on this badge.

Best regards,
Tom

Thanks Tom. I agree, the round-wire catch on your badge is a legitimate uncommon variant from the factory (and only on the scoop-backed type).

As for the finish, I do believe it accidentally escaped the last step of the application of the black finish on the reverse and the waves. A very interesting badge.

Best regards,
—-Norm
