Actualy it is not Tropendichtung ; it is simply Dichtung. All canisters post 1941 supposed to have such rubber band ( that's why all post 1941 made canisters has D at the bottom - they need rubber band like one shown here to be airtight) to be airtight - in other words to avoid getting inside any combat gas - as all post 1941 canisters were not so precise in construction ( wartime simplification - lower quality ) and were not so airtight as pre war and early war examples.

Unfortunately those rubber bands have one major vice ; any dust, dirt or sand which would stuck onto , unable to close the canisters. That's why in most cases those airtight rubber bands were trown away by soldiers.

This makes them rare and hard to find.

I only have a few canisters with Dichtring in my collection. Most of them Kriegsmarine/Küstenartillerie related. I cannot believe that all Waffengattungen got canisters WITH rubber band especially soldiers who were not supposed to leave germany. Do you have a source?
