I agree thet it's a legit late war gunner's pouch with a very bad stamp

why has it got rivets on the front holding nothing just there for show i have seen several over the years all mint but all without the plywood and clips are they fake or for some other purpose

This maker used this cardboardlike material late at war, perhaps late 1944 or early 45. They probably stamped the holes for the plywood and metal sheet but later decided to simplify the production, so covered the holes with rivets.
