Default Cavalry equipment ?

Hello, I post this for a French forum member. For me it's it's cavalry related, but i dont remember who i seen this. It's marked FNJ 44

I'm pretty sure this is a strap that goes on the rider's waist belt to hold a rifle while he mounts the horse. Once mounted, the strap went around the butt of the rifle to reduce bounce while the rifle was carried in the slung position. My example is unmarked.

A '44' on the strap concerns me. The strap itself looks good but they stopped producing them back in '40-41'

It certainly looks like the auxiliary straf for the Karabinertragevorrichtung. I had one sometime ago but that strap was missing. For more info have a look here:
