Michael,

The 2ème Dragons is an armoured cavalry regiment, and has this same insignia since 1947. AFAIK, it never went in Indochina.

The words at the back are the motto of the regiment "DA MATERIAM SPLENDESCAM", ie "Given the opportunity, I will shine" or something in that vein.

Eric

Thank you for the information. I did not have time to research before I placed the bid. From the construction I knew that it was a old piece, and even if it was not Indochina the design is beautiful to enjoy.

A few years back I collected para and commando insigne from the First Indochina War. Because of the weak dollar had to abandon for now and stick to buying in the US.

Enclosed are three Vietnamese airborne instructor wings that I recently found.

The top piece is a sand cast solid piece.

The middle piece was made by Phuoc-Hung. The writing on the back of the paper I believe is information on who ordered the piece and other personal information. Vietnamese speaking viewers please translate.

The third piece was made by Chieu-An based on the card. On the front I see a price of 300 piasters. I have to check what it translates into dollars. Of the three, my favorite would be the last piece which is more of a thin beer can design which is seldom seen.

All are clutch back.

This thread is a great resource. Does anyone know of a "DRACO" label on the jump wings, is this authentic?

"DRAGO" are one of the manufacturers of French para wings, certainly. They manufactured a lot of the unit insignia and such like for the French forces during the 40's, 50's and later. But bare in mind that "DRAGO" wings are very common and could easily be modern, or fairly recent, issue.

The problem is they are marked DRACO, so claims the seller. Have you heard of any fakes that were labelled "DRACO" instead of the DRAGO?

I've not heard of that maker myself, but I'm no expert on these items, sorry.

The letter "G" in DRAGO can be misread as a "C" by a seller not really familiar with french insignia. I've bought perfectly good period DRAGO insignia that a seller indicated was marked DRACO.

That's what I suspected as well, I'll report back when it's in my possession.

Thanks.

Default re-start - please post pics of your Specimens!

what a gem of a thread! after a 4 year hiatus....

for the more experienced collectors on Parachutiste Brevets, please post pics of your specimens! So many variants exist on the Drago logo with the Romainville address. Some with the "depose," others with the "reproduction interdite" etc etc. Some plain backs too.
