Default Pour le Merite offered at Pawn Stars show

Did someone watch this episode? Asking price $20k. Modern ribbon. Rick asked his expert, and then he passed on this one... The red flag for Rick and his expert was that the W was upside down with respect to the 938 silver mark.

It appears to be good . However there was something odd with the enamel. It looked like if it was reworked or re enamelled...

Just watched it. Funny segment. Thanks for posting.

The PLM is obviously an authentic silver gilt Wagner and the oakleaves are also good.

The expert was a fellow named Mark Hall-Patton from the local museum. Seemed a nice guy but a bit out of his wheelhouse with a PLM.

Piece looks like an original Wagner piece, however there is something about the enamel that I do no like. Look at the edges...Could it have been re enamelled?

Hi Gents,

I think the instinct about the enamel is key--reference this thread: http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=876275

The form of the W is hauntingly similar and the questionable enamel. In particular these have the very defined part-circle representing the globe below the cross atop the crown, which suggest the elevation and shadow of the real thing, but are just an enamel creation. The manufacturer may have caught on to the bad wide seams...very suspicious for cast from original, would worry.

Best,

Jim

Wow spot on! The Pawn Stars PLM looks just like the thread starter PLM in that thread. It might very well be the same one. Look at the enamel damage on the front lower arm, just above the “rite”. Also look at the shape of the 8 in the 938 mark
