Default US Dog Tag Korea?

Hello,

I found this dog tag with M1 Helmet (Korea chin strap and liner). There was two dog tags and challenge coin 17th Infantry Regiment "Korea 1950-1954".

I wonder why the subtitles are different (name) and what is this strange short number?

Is this the original dog tag?

Sorry for bad picture.

Good tag maybe a replacement tag. Contact a researcher there are plenty such as goldenarrow research he has access to the archives and can maybe give you more insight on this soldier and what he did.

Since the tag is dated 1954 I guess he is a korean war veteran but his set he used in the korean war was replaced by this set and some later or earlier he got the coin and just put it on the beaded chain.

Thank you for your answer.

I wonder if the 17th Infantry Regiment served in Korea after 1953. I found that challenge coin. What is 1st B.G. 17th Inf Reg?
