Very nice - I would be a little skeptical of all being original though with the extremely clean unissued look they have?

Hi,

if you decide to enter the never ending and dark world of French Colonial medal clasps, prepare yourself for a long journey.

It is mandatory to have the book of Patrick Binet "La médaille coloniale - guide du collectionneur". It will give you a lot of infos on the hundreds of clasps that are known to exist (many more are not listed but are confirmed).

http://editions.pb-co.fr/coloniale/coloniale.html
256 pages, A5 sized.

Two add-ons exist : the certificates by Cyrille Cardona, and History & Geography by Patrick Binet and Cyrille Cardona.

http://editions.pb-co.fr/coloniale-b...lebrevets.html
224 pages, A5 sized.

http://editions.pb-co.fr/coloniale-b...etimeline.html
16 pages, A5 sized.

Many fakes/modern reproductions exist, especially of the rare models (pre-WW1).
Also it seemed that despite many clasps were "banned" or had their name changed, many jewellers/manufacturers - including La Monnaie de Paris - still continued to produce them. To the contrary of logic, you can find "modern" (especially post-WW2) clasps produced by La Monnaie de Paris...

see You

Hi,

clasps on the third photo (at right) are to 1939-1945 Commemorative War Medal:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1939%E...medal_(France)

Some clasps on picture 1 & 2 could be not for Colonial Medal, but for Médaille d'Outre-Mer (Overseas Medal), which replaced Médaille Coloniale in 1962:

regards
Tomasz
