Hello,

I do not think they are. As far as I know, DDR shoulder boards from lieutenant-captain never had woolen bases, they were always made of cotton.

I'm also not liking the overall construction quality. Finally, the tongues don't even have slits in them for attaching and have a strange stitching pattern. Also, the tongues were always attached on the inside the backing fabric, not on top.

To me these seem like some sort of cheap Wehrmacht reproduction shoulder boards.

The Backing is OK for old ones, also the sewing of the tongue is familiar to me.
Not sure about the colour, it can be faded, of if not, they might be artillery.
there are so many variations in the shades, I have some old MfS Boards with a brownish colour.
All late 50's Boards I saw for Subalterns have these backings and also the felt, not the Cotton.

Interesting, I did not know that. I've actually never seen these type of officer's boards (Unterleutnant-Hauptmann) with felt backing, not even KVP ones...

I think this is a nice pair of SfS (Staatssekretariat für Staatssicherheit) bords!
The Biesentuch backing is also ok for these early boards!
