Here I'm
At first, it's for me not easy to expaline well my thought about this thema because my anglish is no good as I want
Say that, go....
IMO, We must take into consideration several factors, prejudice always waiting Jan's text that could really solve all the problems.
Some straps are more or less long, as it is also true that some messkits which are more or less high. There is also want to add that, in my opinion, just produced the straps were much more flexible/extensible than they are today, and this would explain the presence of eight holes.
Starting from the fact that the straps with 8 holes were already used in the first world war to hold the messkits, IMHO we should focus the discussion on those similar but different straps and figure out which was their use and because it had more than 8 holes.
I'm talking about these:

Well, now return on the 8 holes straps.
In this picture, I'd like to show the evident traces of use on messkits (red circles), as opposed to one to ten holes which shows obvious traces of other uses (not only messkits)

And have a look, please, about this 100% Luftwaffe strap.
It took the shape of the messkit, and it is impossible to make it go straight. There are also signs of aluminum on the skin, perfectly matching with the year of the strap (1938), when this time the messkits were produced only in aluminium.
