Default Specific strap for messkit

Ciao a tutti
I would like to know your thoughts regarding an idea that turns me on the head for a long timel.
I'd like to talk about the support straps for messkit.
The only reliable classification of support straps that we have nowadays, is the one that divides into support straps for mounted or unmounted personnel.
With these straps, we have the specific ones for A-Frame.
Well, with this we can all agree, right?
But what do you think about the support straps with 8 defilated holes?
I'd like to talk about this straps.
I'm pretty sure that this one is a strap that could be consider the first ones specific for messkit.
If it is not manually modified with the addition of other holes, this strap can't be used on anything else except to fix the messkit on the bread bag.
What do you think about it?
Thanks, Giancarlo.

Very nice Pics Giancarlo,
..I agree, the Strap with 8 defilated Holes is the correct Mess Kit Strap. All I saw before are without any Maker Marks, like the Ones for the A-Frame too. This is also described in the Angolia Book. I am not Sure about the Straps with 10 Holes, they fits but I don´t know if it is Pre- or Postwar...

Best Regards

Andy

Yes, a passionate study. Behold! Eight holes. Question 1-why eight? What use would seven have if one hole fitted? Question 2 -cms length check on the eight hole messkit strap. Question 3 - how good is the strap fit to captured italian mess kits?
Once again, nice thread. Got a soft spot for messkit straps too!

Not every MK is the same size! And not every MK strap! I have some that fits only on late war MKs, i think they were a bit smaller. That`s why they have not only one hole.

I'm glad that the topic has piqued your interest.
Thanks for the additional pictures of 8 hole straps-

Question 1-why eight? What use would seven have if one hole fitted?
I can do the same question for the other straps, btw we use always the 4 or 5 holes to fit sthe strap on zelt or others

Question 2 -cms length check on the eight hole messkit strap.
Don't understand what you asking, sorry

Question 3 - how good is the strap fit to captured italian mess kits?
I don't know, I haven't italian messkit in my collection.

Not every MK is the same size! And not every MK strap! I have some that fits only on late war MKs, i think they were a bit smaller. That`s why they have not only one hole.
I agree with zam
