How could you say no way on a 1000% guaranteed item?, from Latvia as well to boot -that should seal the debate.
For me this example would clearly indicate they are a collector market made item.Look how poorly it is constructed, even for a late war item but for me the contrived wear on the rear basically leaves no doubt - it is certainly contrived - how would you get worn down wear like that from the nose region of all places, on zelt material? -do you want to guess how many times you would need to wear a mask to get that sort of wear,if at all? It would certainly be more worn on the forehead area but this shows none-no,certainly contrived wear.
While I am highly sceptical of these face masks, the other debate for me was the item being sold as a "sniper" mask, it was certainly a dealer put together piece for the collector market for a high mark up which was my concern.
Cheers

Paul, maybe the original owner of the mask had some huge bulbus warts on his nose

I understand your comments but please take into account this isnt just regular "Zelt material. It is only one side printed like the WH splinter helmet covers and from the photos it looks like original fabric. This one side printed fabric is really difficult to come by. If this was made from zelt fabric then I could understand that detail raising more red flags against these masks. We've all seen many items made from cut up zelts. Im not saying they are original or agree that they're post war produced just to fool collectors. Just feel that they need better scrutiny before discounting them.

Overlord, please post some large photos of the mask so we can see the details better. Whether that will clear up the debate over these masks, I dont know, but it might help give some providence to them.

Cheers

If you take a look under the "wear" you can see that it has been constructed by adding a layer of white material to what looks like zelt material printed on both sides.
This one has been artificially worn and why would there be any need to do that if the item was original and could stand on its own merits?

Here is my contribution to this thread: a prewar Zeltbahn. I have tried to find this maker, but unfortunately stamp hard to read. Maybe someone here will recognise this stamp? Stamp appear to read [name] ?-, Netz- und ?werk [some company type abbreviation] Berlin 1937. If anyone can tell, which maker this is, would help much!

Klaus

It should read like:

Landeslieferungs-Genossenschaft
für das Seiler-, Netz- und
Tuchmacherhandwerk e.G.m.b.H.
Berlin 1937 3

Look to be right length (I can just see a 3 after 1937 also). Thanks!
