Default late war striped canvas

was red the only colour used to mark the measuring line on german army ordinance canvas?
red line three yarns wide.
any other colours, widths?

this thread will hopefully not fall to the bottom like a dead fish.

Grey & blue also. Probably more. 1 plus threads wide. It is most likely a material weight indicator. I have an mp44 pouch with a two thread red line and a three thread red line. The material is clearly different.

I also have an mp44 pouch with a three thread red line and a single thread grey line on the side pouch. Again the material is clearly different.

I never thought those stripes had any deeper meanings. Those late war pieces of equipment were just made from repurposed mangle cloths (Mangeltuch or Rolltuch in german) and therefore weren't even 'german army ordinance canvas' in the first place. They came with a variety of colored stripes, mostly red and blue, sometimes grey, white or yellow. Equipment makers just used the ones that had the small 2-3 thread wide stripes because the ones with broader and more elaborate stripes kind of defied camouflage purposes a little bit. As a feature of those mangle cloths, those stripes had no other meaning than marking the edge of the cloth and to have a visual reference point in between to be sure that you don't press a crease into your laundry. Other than that, I found no information on why there were diffenrent colors and if they mean anything, I always assumed they were just 'decoration'. I once found such a mangle cloth on a flea market, as you can see, it has a red stripe on each side and 2 white stripes in between.
All of that is just my theory though, I cannot vouch for its correctness, it's just based on observations and logic.

The color probably has something to do with material content or quality. That blue striped stuff looks much nicer than the red stuff. When you look close at how many threads are in the weave you will see thAt they are a different number between stipe thickness.
