Default Ss k98?

I found this K98 today and was surprised to see on the side of the barrel what looks like two SS markings with the skull and crossbones on either side of the serial number. Did the SS mark their K98's like this. It looks like the markings are old too. Anyway let me know what you think and what would a rifle like this be worth if they were indeed SS markings on a parts gun. Right now it's still sitting in the gun shop.

No idea, but from what I've seen there are mass fakes of these. Good luck.

yes its fake stamp ,here is no way a WH contract rifle ended with SS VT at this time,if you are looking for real deal then ww1 g98 reworked in to k98 or comercial model may work with this stamps.

Wow, thank you very much guys. I think that's the first time I've seen a Mauser with fake SS markings. Learn something new everyday. Thanks for saving my money!

It is actually quite possible and I’ve owned them. The SS depots were reworking damaged k98s well into the war years. This one just happens to be fake
