It came with the 115 soldiers stein and I was told that it had been worn during parades before WW1.

However, it is interesting, given your years of experience that you have not seen one like this and the reference material does not mention it.

An all white metal buckle would have matched the helmet plate of 115 given that they wore a white metal Leib/Guard star on a white metal Lion. If I am wrong then I offer my apology to Alan and wonder what mine is exactly ?

Anyone else reading this, got a Hessian two piece silver buckle, gilt on silver buckle or silver on gilt buckle ???

p.s. that is my hand holding the camera reflecting in the mirror effect of the nickle plating.

Thanks for posting Chris.

As I have not encountered this buckle in any of the literature I am assuming this is a crown for a gold/brass coloured buckle but somehow ended up on a silver one.

The way the holes are made in the silver buckle also suggest to me some improvised work.

The holes in the buckle are factory made holes,

they have been put into the buckle when it was made by a press/ stamp cut. They are both the exact same size and finished exactly the same on the reverse.

Certainly looks like they were made for the crown when held in hand,

Chris

p.s. one of these buckles came up on ebay last year. I think I saved the images. Will try and find them.

I think that pin might be a replacement. Just an impression.

Thanks Chip,

I am pleased that you have now seen the buckle.

I have never had another 2 piece buckle like that to be able to compare the pin one way or the other. Thus can only assume, given your experience that the pin should be like the others shown on this thread ?

Yes, I would think the pin would be similar to the other ones shown in this thread.
