Looks like a Grade 1 Marksmanship lanyard based upon the width of the wreath surrounding the shield and the swords.

good evening,

i can't agree with this two affirmations,
for me this is soldier wear a schutzenschür 5 stüffe, fifth grade type 2

after 1936 there were 12 level,

first to fourth grade have a shield and a eagle without wreath and swords.

first level no acorn, second level one acorn, third level two acorns, fourth level three acorns.

after the fourth level, the lanyard have oakleaves wreath and swords, this second type was made after 1936 to the end of war and always currently awarded by bundeswher (without eagle and swastika)

your lanyard look like a fifth grade second type, i can't see acorn

http://www.ordensammler.com/html/gewehr_5.htmlhttp://

sixth level, one acorn, seventh level two acorns, eighth level three acorn

when nineth level comes the shield, eagle and wreath are golden and the acorn too

greetings

The lanyard shown in the image is a Grade 1, Second Design Shield.

NOTE: Order HV 39B, No. 31, 9 June 1939 - Introduced a new design for the shield used on lanyards grades 1-4.

This new design is similar to the Grade 5-8 but the wreath is thinner with a smaller shield and swords.

No apology is necessary. Some years ago when trying to find information on Army Marksmanship Lanyards I found there was not much available.

So I started researching for accurate information and acquiring examples of lanyards. The results Neil Stewart and I eventually presented in a book.

NOTE: Over the last 15 years, some very high-quality reproductions of Heer Marksmanship Lanyards have appeared - they are for the highest grades with Gold shields. Details that reveal them include no signs of aging or wear; the 14 large, silver-twisted cords are a bit wider than those on original examples; the small gold knot at the top and the two gold knots at each end are a bit bigger and look a bit different than those on original examples; and the silver protective backing cord has striations running long ways instead of vertically.
