Y-Straps Last Ditch

Default Y-Straps Last Ditch

Here is a interesting Y-strap I picked up yesterday,
Made up from spareparts leather,a real last ditch Y-strap
in my opion,the shoulder straps are dated 1941/1942.

1942 must have been pretty hard for Germany. There is a lot of strange looking equipment and big material changes. Bigger shift to steel and use of Ersatz parts.

In this case I would say the maker run out materials or had too fulfill contract for army for particular items ( or both ) and altered an existing piece of equipment. Ofcourse it could be also fieldgear piece made a much later ( most probably ) than 1942.

You need to remember that in 1942 Albert Speer became a Minister of Armament and Ammunition ( under his command the war production rose rapidly - also because of more sufficient use of resources of all type - examples of such more policy might be all 'ersatz' type of equipment ).
