Default Mess kit JSD40

Hi, I'm interested to know your opinion about this mess-tin. Is a mess tin matching numbers, marked JSD40 used but in good conditions. My attention has always been attracted by the two rivets placed on the handle. They seem to me filed, or otherwise very worn out. Is it normal or should I think it has been altered in some way? Thanks to everyone who wants to give me an opinion.

Default Mess kit JSD 40.

The paint is matching. Can be a period repair (or 1946 repair).

Could it be a feature of this manufacturer?

Here is another one by the same maker which has very similar features.
