Default Unknow leather saddle bags found in Normandy... your opinion ??

Hi guys,

I come back from Normandy where a good friend cleaned his house. He found a lot of ww2 stuff (german and english) but he found in that stuff these two saddle bags in pretty good shape. They are dated 1933 and have been cutted off from the middle part in my opinion. We don't know as if we've donea lot of researchs wich kind of bags these are... German, French, English, Canadian ??? No idea for now, so if you have any informations, they are more than welcome.

Thank you so much for all those who will have or not informations for us.

here are the picts

You’re right but the construction looks German and the typology of « 1933 » is clearly German stamped. I have done a lot of researchs and haven’t found anything about these two leather bags, if anyone has an idea, do not hesitate to share.

Imo they are Soviet and perhaps even imperial Russian as the pattern did not much change until ersatz materials were used during the war.
They should be or were originally connected by two wide straps and I can not tell if these still are or if the straps have been cut off.
Far from common!

I did not pick up on your comment about the 1933 stamp until looking at these again. If they are Soviet as I suspect, that would of course date them 15 years than the imperial Russian period. the key photos missing are the ones showing how they attach to the saddle. I think you will find traces near the top back side of each bag where two wide straps have been removed or cut flush

You're right they're soviet, i've found some pictures of 1888 style saddles and the bags on this kind of saddles are this one. So i assume that a german soldier came back from Russian Front with these as they were attic found by my friend last week in a farm with tones of ww2 stuff.

Thank you Sir for your help !

German army used large number of Red Army material: weapons, bags ( both army have a similar tornister) and maybe mess kits ?
They also have auxiliary troops draft by the prisonners of war.
