help with German soldier info
Hello,
I'm trying to do some research on the following info of a German Soldier who's rank, name and feldpost is painted on the rear flange of his helmet.
Here is his info, Uffz. (unteroffizer is sergeant?) Riemann, 453655.
I would appreciate any help from my fellow members. I was told that this soldier was in the 94 Infantrie Division that service in Italy and did not survive the war. I don't know if this is true or not and I would like to know more about him if possible and if he was in the 94 ID that was in Stalingrad?
thanks, John H.

Hi John,
The Feldpost number is not correct as it has six numbers....FP Nr. only had 5, so the last number has to be a letter A to E.
If that is the case then FP Nr. 45365:
(28.2.1941-29.7.1941) 1. Batterie Artillerie-Abteilung 859,
(1.3.1942-7.9.1942) cancelled and became FP Nr. 44018 B,
(12.3.1943-7.9.1943) Stab u. 1.-4. Schwadron Radfahr-Abteilung 194 then Stab u. 1.-4. Schwadron Aufklärungs-Abteilung 194.
Aufklärungs Abteilung 194 was part of 94 Infanterie Division, however it was formed after the Division was destroyed at Stalingrad.
Can you show a scan of the FP Nr?
/Ian

Hello Ian,
yes, now that I'm looking at the helmet the feldpost reads 5 numbers followed by the letter E more like the correct feldpost is 45365E. I scanned the info from the helmet. I hope this helps thanks, John

2nd part
Wow thanks for the great info Ian.
My 2nd question, how would I find out if Uffz. Riemann was at Stalingrad was maybe wounded and evacuated and later was part of the cadre of soldiers to form the new rebuilt 94th ID?
Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks, John

John,
As I said in my post, the Radfahr/Aufklärungs Abteilung 194 was part of 94 Infanterie Division, however it was formed after the Division was destroyed at Stalingrad.....so he would not have been there with the FP Nr.
Without further info it will be difficult...the Deutsches Dienststelle is not interested in giving information to collectors.
There are 477 Riemann's listed on the German War Graves site. http://www.volksbund.de/graebersuche.html

Hello Ian,
So Uffz. Riemann feldpost number 45365E was in radfahr / aufklarungs-Abteilung 194, 4th Schwadron which translate to English as, Radar / Recconnaissance department 194 of 4th Squadron. That is if I translated it right.
Again, thank you Ian for the help, John
