I have sen some small groups that consisted of the campaign medals with a few stars and the Victory Medal. But they were identified and the experiences that were lived through by the recipients read like something out of a novel, such as a combat infantryman who fought his way ashore on D-Day; then fought across Europe; he was captured but he escaped several days later, linked up with Resistance fighters, and finally got back to his own lines. But he wasn't wounded, and he was never cited for a specific act of valor, so no Purple Heart or other decorations; just the campaign medal with arrowhead and stars, his CIB, and the Victory Medal.


You just never know....
