Default M56 - Kommandantendienst

White stripe and KD decal for the "Kommandantendienst". Worn from 1966 until 1977. You can compare the KD (Kommandantendienst) with the MP (Military Police).

That is a great looking helmet, very rarely seen! And an interesting period photograph too. Thanks for sharing!

I have not read much about this branch of service. Was it comparable to the Wehrmacht Feldgendarmerie?

Very nice and rare helmet, seldom seen, even in pictures. Five thumbs up.

I see. The reason I asked was because I am not really familiar with the Military Police of the US army or the British armed forces, and I was wondering if any older German military police traditions or practices were carried over to the NVA Kommandantendienst.

The Kommandantendienst had special order and security tasks. Here is the Wikipedia defintion: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kommandantendienst

In 1933-1936 the NSDAP had the SA Feldjägerloprs, in WW II (you are right) the Wehrmacht had the "Feldjäger". After the war the Bundeswehr had "Feldjäger" too. In my opion the tasks was nealy the same in all periods. Also for the "Kommendantendienst"

Thanks for the info! Hopefully one day I'll be able to acquire one of these helmets...
