Default P640b Slotted/Tangent Sight Belgian Hi-Power Pistol

Here's a truly RARE bird!

A friend of mine who has an amazing private collection of military firearms has asked me to help him sell them all and just gave me this to take to the upcoming Lakeland, Florida arms collector show the third weekend of January.

It's quite rare to have an opportunity to handle and examine one of, if not THE, hardest of all to find Nazi issued Belgian Browning Hi-Power pistols, so it pleases me to have this opportunity to do so.

This Pistole 640 (b) slotted/tangent sight Belgian Hi-Power is one of only 20,700 tangent sight and slotted pistols produced after the immediate Nazi take over of Fabrique Nationale. From what I've read only an estimated 10,000 of this style pistol were assembled using the WaA 613 proof mark.

Slotted/tangent sight examples were only made between 1940 and early 1941.

This is an all original pistol and is properly marked throughout. It still has it's original to the gun Belgian proofed magazine too. It is in excellent condition with only minor wear, and in a range of 1 to 10 on the rarity scale it definitely rates a 10. So, before it's gone I thought I'd show it here before it finds a lucky new owner.

Enjoy!

Nice one.
I had one with 52228 serial. Still regretting selling it.
The one you posted has barrel unnumbered, but 613 proofed. Was it normal in that early stage of production?

From what I have read and been told by a Hi-Power collector the answer is yes. One sold by Julia's in the same SN range and marked similarly was also like this one, as the very first contract pistols are supposed to be.

That's similar style that Belgians used before the war, no number, just proofs. I now believe after some thought that Germans adopted that style at the beginning and later switched to numbering the barrel on the right side.
