I have seen a photo where 3 SF14 are mounted on sockets attached to the inside walls of an observation post, each looking at a different angle. But this ones looks as if it is standing on a post in the middle.

Never seen that part It is curious they made such a complicated thing when it is easier to make a spigot!!!

Funny. I am sure I have seen that photo before. but only now, I realise they put a bolt through the gearbox.
I can come up with 2 explanations. Either this is a check on the installation/mount, with a SF14 perfectly aligned to 90 degree, (or some other relevant degree), or, the lower mount of the instrument have been damaged, and the local waffenmeister has come up with a solution. I hold the latter to be the more likely.
The photo is fairly late as the soldier to the right is wearing an Einheitsmütze M43.
