Default Advice on leather strap

Hello all,

Recently found this leather strap in a German ammo box. Does anybody know for what it was used, there is an extra small leather strap attached to it as you can see in the pictures. Length is 54 cm.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I think the official name is support straps for unmounted troops but they are more commonly called tornister straps.

The small extra strap was fastened to loops on the tornister or other packs to allow various items to be carried such as a blanket, mantel or zeltbahn.

To better illustrate what I mean here is the first result back from google
