Default A very rare pistol to find

I picked up three pistols from the family of a vet the other day and this jewel was among them. The other two was a 1935a Mas and a CZ 70. I kept thinking it was a 1922 Browning until I finally sat down and looked up the name. It's a Kommer model four, the rarest model they made since it didn't come out until 1940. It has over 95% of the original blueing left on it and is Nazi proofed and all matching. Definitely hard to come by. Enjoy

Maybe just the out of focus photos, but looks buffed and reblued.

I agree. Rare pistol but not original finish.

Yes on the reblue, looks like an older 1960's gunshop special to me.

My first thought as well. Color is very telling.

Take a look at the stamps under a good magnifying glass. If the edges are not as sharp as they should be then you'll have the answer.

I would think that it was originally rust blued, and the finish shown is hot tank blued.

I agree that this finish looks hot blue (bluing salts solution immersion) but made as stated in 1940 or later and the proofs support that claim, it would have been immersion blued most likley

I agree it's a reblue for sure. You can see the markings buffed out and the edges appear rounded.

Certainly has the "reblue look" but I've seen a lot of these KOMMERs that actually look like this one, with the rounded edges and the buffed, bright, glossy appearance, and there may be too few of these around to get a good call on what they should look like.

I’m probably spending more energy on this than is warranted but I would not use the words “for sure” about most any detail of this pistol given the quality of the photos. I’m not sure if the camera is low resolution, the focus is off or the lighting is very harsh or the gun is oil covered or all 4 conditions at least once. No way can I say for sure about originality of finish based on those photos but god bless those that can.

White background plus harsh lighting sure doesn't help, but from what was provided the pistol looks buffed and blued. That is what we have to work with.

I admit that viewing the image posted of the slide markings, I was also thinking this was a reblue. But I remembered I had this image of a Kommer that was recently auctioned in Germany by Hermann Historica. Notice the faint slide markings. Identical to the one posted above. The caliber marking is identical. No, I think the one posted is an original finish that was perhaps well oiled. As Johnny P. wrote above, the photos do not help at all in seeing this rare pistol.
