Wink the kevin wheatcroft collection is building a king tiger!!!

I was browsing through the threads there last night and I ended up in the Kevin wheatcroft collection! It seems that they are going to build a king tiger out of parts! they don’t seem to have a hull but could be in interesting one to watch!! I see they got another panther to restore and 2 stugs and a pz IV!plus I saw in another pic where they were unloading the finish stugs they got themselves 2 hetzers! Looks like they got the beginnings of division!!!

One of the 2 remaining unrestored Panther A hulls will be restored to Ausf. D configuration. The cracked and shot to crap A glacis will be replaced with a new manufacture D glacis and an original dustbin cupola will be fitted. Internal and automotive components (torsion bars, engines, gearboxes etc.) for all 3 Panthers have been restored and manufactured simultaneously so restoring the two other Panthers will be a much faster operation.

Last I heard the parts count for the King Tiger is now over 80% original parts but no date has been set for the restoration to begin. It will be quite the jigsaw puzzle but many main structural components (hull and turret armor plates) are said to be remarkably complete and fit together quite nicely.

With the arrival of the Finnish StuG:s Kevin now has 4 hulls, two B:s and two G:s (or more correctly a StuG 40 G and a StuG III G.)

And they have 3 Hetzers in inventory, one is almost complete and restored last I heard.

Not a lot of them no, there is no public access to his collection (which was one of the reasons for the website). Some vehicles (cars, motorbikes, soft skins, halftracks) can turn up at shows though, the FAMO has been at Beltring more than once. Tanks have been a rare treat though but I believe that a Pz II, III and a Hetzer have been out and about.

There's a quite ambitious refurbish program in progress at Bovington at the moment. The StuG for one thing (formerly dressed as a German vehicle called Ulla and in a quite dreadful camo paint) is now refurbed to more correct Finnish StuG specs with logs on the sides and concrete makeshift add-on armor; very nice!

Kevin had plans to make the king finish to his 50`birthday the last time I spoke with him.
It will be a very good restauration as so many other he has done with his crew.

Here is one fabulously wealthy man spending his money wisely for a change!

Kevin is also restoring S-130, the last surviving Schnellboot, to original factory condition. There is a website and a forum for anyone who might be interested in this project.

Why was the S-97 Schnellboot first salvaged and then scrapped? Was it no chance to salvage it or even preserve it in its "as found" condition?
