Anand, I haven't seen the book yet. It was always one of my favorite engagements. I visited the bridge in 1984 when I was stationed in Sicily. I have some photos somewhere. I also have some photos of the 1st Model FG42 which members of the DLI picked up and brought back to Britain. It used to be on display in their museum, at least when I was there around 1993.

I used to have the book "Red Devils - Green Devil's", but it appears it fell victim to my book thinning process. I recall it had a good presentation of the events at the Primisole Bridge.

I still have this German reference, but I have yet to read it.

Thanks Willi.
I have ordered it from Amazon so eagerly await it. The author was in 1 Para and himself saw action so his own insights should be worthwhile. Yes a very hard fought para v para battle in part, although certainly not to forget the involvement of the Durham Light infantry !

For those who have not heard it, a most fascinating account, not only of his career but of Primosole (from reel 32 more specifically) can be heard from this very fine gentleman Peter Lewis MC of 8DLI, including the hand to hand battles with the paras in the vineyards and at the sunken road...
