I really like this one. I would also have thought it was rusty at first glance.

Thanks for your replies.
Yes, its a soldier named Horn serving after the codes in both sea and maintenance duties. Interesting in that perspective.
Nice to see a another helmet with danish (scandinavian) provenance.
No doubt, a war painted helmet.
The previous owner told it was found together with other german equipment which are lost now.
I think its a very interesting helmet, maybe one of the best finds this year for me.

Regards

Jan

Glad i could find a matching helmet to my complete untouched coastal artillery gas mask set that i just could score out of an attic in Schleswig-Holstein near the danish border. The same rotbraun tan colour like your helmet.
Stamped with: "Geprüft 2. März (march) 1945 Gotenhafen/Gdynia".
Some days after this mask has been stamped the russians conquered the harbour. And the leaving german ships finally landed in Schleswig-Holstein

Very nice untouched pot. Looks uncleaned too. Any history behind it?

There is a thread on it, purchased it from a French dealer at Ciney who told me it was a recent house clearance find in Paris, its untouched both inside and out.

There are those that will tell you that helmets in this color were repainted by the Norwegians postwar. I don’t buy it.
