Default M1 helmet markings

Hello. Could you please help me to identify these markings, are they original or refurbished? This helmet is from early Vietnam era, manufacturer's stamp is: 1 1812 ingersoll year 1965. Thanks in advance!

Appears to be a rank chevron (Cpl or Sgt) and a spade w/Vietnam worded inside.....Pretty tough to say with 100% certainty when for sure it was added....What's the story regarding where it came from?....Bodes

The rank insignia might be US Navy, or possibly Australian. Did/does the Australian Army wear the NCO stripes point down like the British Army? If Navy, it is missing the "crow."

The ace of spades was a common theme during Vietnam. It supposedly signified death to the enemy, etc.

This could also be something that a kid painted 30 or 40 years ago.

Thanks for the answers. The helmet was bought in Russia and according to former owner, it came from Vietnam with a dog tag, but it's hard to say if it's true or not. There is some kind of ink inscription on the side of the helmet, barely noticeable, similar to a hieroglyph, inside the helmet is also the same inscription made of ink but it's smaller. It's on the photo.

Thanks for the answer. Yeah, there is missing string about religion on the dog tag. Where it came from and it's relation to the helmet is unknown for me. I think seller sold it together to make the price higher. I'm more interested in scripts on the helmet, could they be done back then in Vietnam judging by rust and patina?

Of course it's possible, but without the person (or a family member) who used it in Vietnam coraborating the story, all we can do is speculate.....Quite often, the history behind such pieces is lost....Bodes

1. In which time helmet with this sphere could be used could it be end of ww2 ?
2.Could this color and script be used during the ww2 or it was made after it?

Personally I would be wary of these helmets.

Medic helmets are one of the most heavily faked helmets. My gut feeling on the paint is not good, but I am not experienced in that area, maybe it is real. The small medic crosses are similar in size to those worn by ARVN and ROK in Vietnam. That isn't to say it is an ARVN or ROK helmet, just a thought. To write "USA." inside is really weird and I have never seen it done before. The name is a common one, you may have some luck searching for it.

The rank on the other one could also be a Sergeant in the ARVN but Vietnam is written in the English way of writing it: "Vietnam", and not the Vietnamese way: "Việt Nam" with the space and the accent marks, so I think that rules out ARVN.

I think writing "Vietnam" on the helmet is very helpful to the seller of the helmet, but it is a little strange for a soldier to write. The other soldiers with him in Vietnam know he is in Vietnam, there is no need to write it, although I will say it was probably done.

My feeling is the paint on both is fake, but I don't 100% hate them, I think they have a slim change. Sorry I could not be more help, and I am no expert by any means.

Thank you. Have you watched the movie "Saving Private Ryan (1998)"? There at the corporal on the jacket was written "USA" - on the back and in capital letters).Sorry for my English
