Agreed, all fake.

Did the guy really say his advice was to "buy the seller, not the item?"....

Willi,
No, that's an old saying in the watch collector community which I adhere to (both the saying and watch collecting). The basic line is: if you feel uneasy about the seller and you are not 100% sure, then walk away since most probably the item is not good. It's a combination of psychology and some basic research about the seller really.
It usually works for me, especially on ebay

I just noticed a further thing, the pictures he sent me of the first helmet (ebay item 6550327128 as featured above) doesn't match the picture in the ebay ad!!!

I take it both helmets are 100% repro, or?

I'll leave the shell to the pro's but that eagle doesn't look right. I can identify several details that look wrong.

Repro. High price for a fake.

Bill, yes they are faking M37s. That is a M37 modified for an M38 liner. I suspect it is a fake M38 that someone has added M35 style rivets and added the slots.

Have you a close up of the inside of the female press stud (Popper) on the chin strap?

No press stud picture yet but I'm awaiting one.
I am concerned about the wear of the liner which doesn't look right for a +60 year old helmet. Looks somewhat "artificial".

Have received a close-up of the eagle though and at least this looks very . Perhaps the same goes for the rest of the helmet, but I need expert opinions to confirm this.

And,...
IMHO its liner is reproduction. its rubber pad looks not right, and the "dirt" not into the gap of band. odd leather color, an artificial aged liner.
