Yes, it's the Japanese "soldbuch," called

軍隊手帳
Guntai Techō
Army notebook

Name:
山本惣次
Yamamoto Sōji
Yamamoto is the family name.

You will probably have the most luck finding something on ebay or YahooAuctions Japan. Concerning time periods, late 1930's into 1941 seem to pop up the most in the way of frequency. The vast majority of these coming from Japanese dealers who themselves purchase from Japanese auction sites. True vet. bring backs, aka captured examples out of the US are rather uncommon. Only a few pop up throughout the year. As to collecting these for their units, if you are wanting that, infantry by far is the most common, air related less so, and armor related one of the least common to find. Happy to look at examples and let you know what you have if you want to send me pics. just PM me. I have collected these booklets for over a decade -- they are my "bread and butter".
