Please take a moment to remember all those who fought, from all sides of the conflict, which began on this day in 1941.

A good time to remember all the Soldier who fought, dies and were injured at the Battles at Crete.

A few time ago, i bought two pictures from the Fallschirmjäger. Both were writen on the backside. HFW NENNINGER, killed at Crete on 20th May 1941.
I found him on a list from the Fallschirm - MG - Bataillion 7. He was Kompanietruppführer in the 1st Coy, Fsch-MG-Baon 7.

See the man an always remember the Veterans!!!

I make a little research for Hfw. NENNINGER, so the fight about Crete get a face.

The 1st Company, with Hfw NENNINGER, belongs to the Group "WIEDEMANN". They started on 20th May 1941 from the Airfield Megara at 14 o´clock.
The group "WIEDEMANN" its made up of III./FJR 2, 1./FschMgBatl. 7, 2./ FschArtAbt 7, 2./ FschFlaAbt 7;

They jump between 16.10 - 16.30 o´clock on both sides at the Platanias - Bridge. Then they fought in direction Rethymnon.

At 18 o`clock, they arrive enemy postions eastside Rethymnon. They brake through the postions and came to the eastern borderline from the City of Rethymnon. At 20 o´clock was the enemy force to heavy and they must go back to their previous postions.

Between 16.10 an 20 o´clock, Hfw NENNINGER is dieing.

Sorry to say, but Hfw. Nenninger didn't even jump. His plain crashed before the jump-signal was given. Most of the crew and FJ's, ammongst them Hfw. Nenninger and Gefreiter Fricke, were killed during the crash.

This is according to Felix Gaerte, 1.Kp., who flew in another plain and was the 3rd to jump, after Olt. Laun and Oberfeldwebel Franzl Knaeble. In his plain were also Assistenzarzt Dr. Rusch, Gefreiter Kurt Martin (shot severall times in the chest while capturing his Waffenbehalter, died).

Hi

According to Volksbund Hauptfeldwebel Karl Jakob Nenninger died in Kokkinia,Athen-Piräus,Krgsl.mot.6/572 (09.06.1941) so he must be injured during the plain crashed and not killed.

There is no info about Gefreiter Fricke in Volksbund. His name isn´t in Maleme cemetery

Gefreiter Kurt Martin is buried in Maleme cemetery. Block 2 Grab 729

I would like to know the names of the 41 members of 1./Fallsch. MG Btl 7 who were killed or disappeared in Kreta. I have only 11 names.
If someone have more info, please share with us.

Regards. Joserra.

Best regards

Default Battle of Rethymno Oblt. Kurt Glanz

Kurt Glanz belonged to the stab/ MG7. Former army officer. He met his death after jumping on the western side of Rethymno airfield. He was killed probably by Australian bullet from hill B. In the pictures you can see him in the plane to Crete before the jump with Oberartzt Behmann also KIA. Then a pic with him, dead on the ground and his grave. Rgt Stab group had a lot of losses. Fell right up on Aussie guns. Survivors made contact with Wiedemanns group.
