Excellent pictures JC and RonR.
The Polish variant is fabulous.

The eagle head orientation is possibly telling in itself ?

The German version looking east whilst the polish version looking west?

Probably a crazy observation from a crazy Irishman

Is mise

The direction in which each eagle is looking illustrates the whole issue surrounding the Three Polish Uprisings in Silesia between 1919 and 1921.

The Polish badge is very nice and quite rare. There are lots of fakes around.

FYI. There is a Weimar and Freikorps forum which would be a better location for this discussion. The Silesian Eagle isn't a Wehrmacht award and by rights shouldn't be shown here.

Indeed, not a Wehrmacht award, but according to Wikipedia....

"This medal was one of the few Freikorps awards that were allowed to be worn on uniforms during the Third Reich after the 1935 ban on unofficial medals."

Also thank you for your kind and enlightening comments!

Best regards,

Best regards,
True. After the 1935 ban on Freikorps awards and unofficial Weimar era awards, the Silesian Eagle was allowed to be worn along with the Baltic Cross, Kärntner Kreuz and the Commemorative Badge for the Liberation of Munich, 1919, which was established in 1937.

My comment about the Freikorps forum was only because what has been shown here is interesting and it would be a shame if it gets lost because it's not in a place where people would normally go to find examples of the Silesian Eagle.
