Default Very early late war canteen?

I have received this set, which appears to have been untouched since 1945. The bottle is unmarked. The late steel cup bears the stamp MN42. No other markings found anywhere.

Did they make these sets in 1942 already?

Yes they did. That's why I call steel made canteens ( and messkits ) M31/42.

It looks like bottle is marked on the neck. Maybe just too deep. Look for additional markings on straps and wool cover. This type of configuration is rather typical for 1942 dated canteens with steel bottles and cups.

Default M42 Canteen MN42

Hello, nice Matching M42 canteen in pretty good shape, if the felt in the back is also in good condition, it's a perfect found!

Yes, it is a very nice example. Thank you all very much, I thought these were made from 43 or 44 on!
