Question Looking for information on Frontstalag 221

I am the son of a paratrooper wounded and captured on D-Day. He was held in a POW Hospital in Rennes Frances variously called Frontstalag 221 W, Stalag 221, Rennes Military Hospital, or Rennes EPS depending on the source. I have the name of the German Hospital administrator from July 1944 to August 1944 when the hospital was liberated with Rennes on 4 August 1944. The administrator was Oberstabsarzt Doctor Ernst Enzinger who was assigned to the Frontstalag 221 in Bordeaux in 1943.

I would like to learn as much as I can about the Frontstalag organization, ideally the KStN, Dr. Enzinger, and the various sub-elements. Does anyone have any information about Frontstalags?

Another thing to find would be the unit which provided the guards. I believe this unit to be the 907 Landesschuetzen Battalion which was the IV battalion of the 195 Sicherung Regiment.

Does anyone have any details about POW guard units?

Hello Dale
Just going through my "Tessin"
Frontstalag 221(Frontstammlager für Kriegsgefangene):
- Originated 17.7.1940 in Wehr Kreis XIII
- Subunit of Militär Befehlshaber Frankreich
- Located 1942 St MEDARD, 1943 BORDEAUX with subunit (Aussenstelle) RENNES
- Replacements came from region of WINTERBERG, EGER ? WK XIII

The fieldpostNr for the Frontstammlager 221 (BORDEAUX) was 17427
The FPNr for the RENNES sub-unit was 20275 (belonging to Dienststellen RENNES)

Both units - but I assume your main interest goes to RENNES - have missing listed.
The RENNES Aussenstelle missing are to be found in the VBL Bd AR page 659 (not in my posession)

I'm affraid there isn't much more on my bookshelves to be found ...

Cheers
Peter

Vermisstenbildliste Band "AR"
(listings of missing soldiers compiled by the German red cross)
But IMO you'll find there nothing of interest for your goal...

Well if it is the list of personnel missing from the Rennes Ausstelle then I think I might be interested as it would give me some names of the German Staff there. If any were missing. I know the Oberstabsarzt Enzinger was captured by the Americans and I have gotten a smidge of information about him from the Deutsche Dienstelle. Maybe there would be some names from the 907 Landesschuetzen Battalion that I believe were the guards there.

Hello Dale
"... 907 Landesschuetzen Battalion ..."
they (with FpNr 21284) have indeed some missing listed, but these (I suppose very few) are to be found in Vermisstenbildliste band "FG" on page 1 (together with those missing of LdsBtll 904).

So is this Vermisstenbildliste Band "AR" online somewhere or where can it be found?

Dale
Not on the net, but here on the forum are guys who have those books. To get their attention, I would recommend to start a new thread in the right forum.
