Hitler Christmas Greeting Card

I have just acquired this portrait of Adolf Hitler bearing the Christmas greeting "Frohe Weihnachten!" at the bottom, along with Hitler's signature and "Berlin 1939" - all integrally produced on the photo postcard. The size is 103 mm x 145 mm and the paper quality is sturdy and appears to be quite good. The reverse is completely blank and devoid of any printed text or other markings.

A search of this forum has revealed several examples of non-photo cards with seasonal greetings as sent out under Hitler's name, but none like this photo postcard.

I would be interested to know if any members have seen cards the same as this one and whether or not this may be a known period example.

Hi,

I have an example of this postcard without any signature or Christmas greeting on the bottom.
If memory serves me well, I bought it in Germany (Berlin) a few years ago for 12 Euro.
They seem quite common, but I imagine the Christmas message is unusual for such a card?

Can I assume, Max - given your example dated 1938 - that these are period original and were used for some manner of seasonal distribution, official or otherwise, back in the day?

Not having seen one before with the included Christmas notation, I would be most interested to learn a bit more about them, and am wondering if these are considered to be unusual or maybe a hard-to-find item.

Regarding value, "feldpost 58" mentions the price he paid for such a portrait card without the other additions, so I am wondering what one like Max's 1938 or my 1939 card might be worth today?

Given that the writing is exactly the same apart from the last number, I think your assumption is correct. However, these were not sent out by Hitler or his staff, but were reproduced in large numbers for general sale and distribution.

Even the digits 1, 9, and 3 look identical. The only thing different is the last digit- 8 or 9.

Nice catch on the similarities - both cards are absolutely identical except for the last number in the year.

Never seen one of these before and I've handled tons of this material. Interesting! Thank you.

Thanks for your input "alexanderautogr". Like you, in spite of Max's comment - which makes good sense - that "...these...were reproduced in large numbers for general sale and distribution", I have never seen one before in over 50 years of collecting and viewing TR material. It still leaves me wondering why these appear to be a hard-to-find item.

Any other Forum members or collectors seen them?
