Default P08 Grip Material

Hey everyone

I just picked up a G date s/42 Mauser Luger. The Grips are an off white color with a checkered face.

When I bought it I assumed they were plastic, as did the seller.

However after pulling them off they have a clear grain to them, and on doing a hot pin test they don't smell or burn like plastic. So what are these? Wood, Bone, Ivory?

I didn't think G date s/42 Lugers had anything but wood grips as issued, so these were obviously added later

Any help appreciated, since I bought it thinking they were plastic anything else would be a pleasant surprise

All early Mauser Lugers like your 1935 G-date had walnot grips. The grips on the shown Luger are modern replacements, probably American.

Kinda figured that, i do have a set of original walnut grips as well.

Any idea what these are made from? I am more curious than anything else...i would say plastic but they didn't react like plastic to a hot needle test and they have a grain of some sort to them
